mexican precious stones
Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them shiny rocks from down Mexico way. They got all sorts of ’em, some you ain’t never even heard of, I betcha.
Lots of pretty rocks, they got. Folks say this part of the world is plumb famous for all the sparkly things they dig up. They got this here agate and that turquoise. Pretty blue stuff, turquoise is, folks make jewelry outta it. And then there’s jasper and that black shiny rock, obsidian, they call it. Looks like somethin’ the devil coughed up, but some folks like it.
And get this, they even got amber. You know, that sticky stuff that comes from trees? Well, they find it in caves down there in Chiapas. Hard as a rock, it is, and sometimes bugs get stuck in it. Crazy, huh?
But the real fancy one, the one everybody wants, is that Mexican fire opal. Burns like a fire inside, they say. Never seen one myself, but I hear they’re somethin’ special. Lots of these rocks are kinda strange, not like the ones you find just anywhere. Some of ’em, you only find ’em in Mexico, nowhere else.
- Now, they got a whole bunch of other rocks too. Too many to remember, if you ask me. But I heard tell of some called Crown of Silver Psilomelane, sounds fancy, don’t it? And then there’s Crazy Lace Agate, Laguna Agate, and Luna Agate. Sounds like they just makin’ up names, if you ask me.
- They also got this Wave Dolomite, and all kinds of Obsidian – Rainbow, Spiderweb, Silver Sheen, Gold Sheen, even Mahogany. Too much obsidian, if you ask me. Who needs that much black rock?
- Oh, and they got Selenite too. Kinda see-through, it is. And Fire Agate, that’s another one that looks like it’s burnin’. And the Amethyst from down there? Folks say it’s the best in the world, worth a whole heap of money.
Down in New Mexico, they make a lot of stuff with turquoise and silver. Rings, bracelets, all sorts of things. You can buy it from the Indians on the reservations, or even in them fancy stores in the big cities.
You know, back in the day, they even made that turquoise the state gem. March 23rd, it was. Guess they really like that blue rock.
So, yeah, Mexico’s got a whole lot of rocks. Some pretty, some strange, some worth a whole lot of money. If you like that kinda thing, I guess it’s a good place to go. Me? I’d rather have a good chicken dinner, but to each their own, I always say.
And you know what else? You don’t gotta spend a fortune to get some of these pretty rocks. I heard you can even find ‘em on that there eBay. Just gotta poke around a bit. Ain’t that somethin’? You can get just about anything on that there internet these days.
So that’s the story on them Mexican rocks. More rocks than you can shake a stick at, that’s for sure. And some of ‘em are real lookers, I gotta say.
